NEWS!!!

Hi Friends, Great to be back today, it would have been my Mom's 69th Birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM...

SO I decided today to share a Breaking News story out of Victoria BC. Earlier this week Victoria city council voted to remove the statue of Sir John A. MacDonald located at the front of City Hall. This was done in the spirit of reconciliation. Now I know that my mom would have been on the side of cheers when the statue was removed this morning.

As we know Sir John A. MacDonald was part of the government that instituted the Indian Act and started the residential school system. Generations of children taken from homes, families and communities and subjected to violence and abuse.

BUT>>>>

He was also a large part of the reason we are Canada today. He was able to get provinces to agree to work together, he was able to get political parties to work together to make this the Country that I love.

This brings us to center of the debate today... Is removing statues, memorials and art depicting our history that some find offensive really help in any form of reconciliation? Does removing confederate memorials in the southern states really helping in resolving the race battles?

I love the idea I heard the happened in Germany, instead of removing a Nazi war monument in Hamburg the Council had artist design a new monument depicting the hurt of war.... What a great idea... We need to have monuments that show all sides of our history. I truly believe in reconciliation but taking down statues or renaming awards or schools is not the way to do it..... I imagine mom and I would have had a great debate today!!! I am sharing the link bellow for the news stories. Feel free to comment your opinion on this matter... but please keep it clean and racism free.... This was not to start a great race debate only to offer a platform to discuss a different way!
